Rotorua is bustling with change and we want to make sure you know all the new adventures and top tips to add onto your itinerary for this summer!
We’ve had lots of exciting changes just down the road at the Rotorua Lakefront with massive redevelopments changing the entire landscape of the lakefront and creating another fantastic green space for both locals and manuhiri to enjoy. We enjoy visiting the afternoon to catch the sunset and some local takeaways with the whole family. Be sure to check at the amazing new playgrounds and boardwalks, there is even a flying fox!
While down at the lakefront you can pay a visit to the team at Katoa Lake Rotorua and take a trip in one of their high speed jet boats across to the stunning Manupirua Hot Pools on Lake Rotoiti. This trip takes you across Lake Rotorua, through the Ohau Channel to Lake Rotoiti where you spend an hour relaxing in the geothermal waters of the Manupirua Hot Pools right on the lakes edge.
For an out of town adventure, head out around Lake Rotorua to the scenic Okere Falls where the team at Rotorua Ziplines will take you soaring over the Kaituna Awa (river). This 2.5 hour experience not only has you ziplining over the white water rapids of the awa below but you’ll learn all about the history of the area and the restoration mission that Rotorua Ziplines is doing to restore the land back to its native state.
The lakes are always a highlight when visiting Rotorua and there are so many great spots to choose from! This summer head for a drive out to Lake Tarawera and enjoy the views from the new boat ramp and landing area on the lakes edge. Enjoy an ice-cream at the Landing Cafe or even stop in for a visit to the Buried Village on the way!
All this adventuring has us hungry but luckily we’ve had some great new eateries open up right in the CBD – walkable from Aura, how perfect!
Junction on Fenton
Located in the iconic i-SITE building on Fenton street, Junction is a collaboration between Toi Ohomai and the Rotorua Lakes Council and their menu reflects the traditional Māori planting and harvesting cycles. Alongside delicious cabinet food, they boast a full menu and are currently doing late nights on Friday & Saturday.
Open 7 days.
Boasters at Eleven-Eighty
The family atmosphere and welcoming vibe makes Boasters a great place to grab a coffee and sweet treat! Serving up their own roasted coffee and tasty treats from Guidoughs Bakery it’s a welcomed addition to the Rotorua Cafe scene. We appreciate their book exchange, bright and friendly staff plus the nice wide tables are perfect for families and groups.
Open Monday – Saturday.
