Back in June we found ourselves sitting in the events room at the Pullman Auckland, all dressed up and surrounded by a group of talented and dedicated humans. They represented the best of the tourism and hospitality industry across New Zealand and coming from a small Rotorua accommodation business, it was pretty surreal for us to be there.
We were in Auckland for the Hospitality Awards for Excellence 2023 as we had been nominated as a finalist in the ‘Best Sustainability/Environmental and/or Recycling Practices’ category. It had seemed like a good category for us to enter, sustainability at Aura is something we are really passionate about and it is an area we are really proud of and continue to invest a lot our time, resources and energy into.
So we got a seat at the table and were just sipping on that first beverage of the night when we realised that our category was first up and before we knew it, Aura Accommodation flashed on the big screen. There was cheering all around as Nick & myself, feeling slightly dazed and shocked made up way up to the stage to collect the award on behalf of the Aura team.
We’ve always had the attitude that making these changes, creating initiatives and striving to make sustainably-led decisions is without a doubt, the right thing to do. It’s a part of our values and ethos here at Aura, so winning this award means a lot to our little team down in Rotorua. To be recognised on a national level for our sustainability initiatives and mahi in this area is a fantastic feeling and we’re so grateful to be sharing this with our Aura whānau.
